DIY Christmas Card

Yesterday, I showed you some of the pictures we took for our Christmas card this year. Once all of the editing was complete, I hopped on Shutterfly and discovered how expensive our cards were going to be [$70 before shipping and taxes] so I did some thinking and remembered that I could do a FREE template [and customize it] at PicMonkey.

I am going to give you a quick tutorial on how I got this:

Christmas Card 2013

Head on over to PicMonkey and select Create a Collage.

Once you are the there you are going to select the button on the left side that looks like three squares. Then select Cards and choose which size and layout you would like to start with. The layouts can be changed completely. 2

Now that you have the blueprint for your card, you can start to adjust it to your liking. When you click the paint board, you can select a background color and the spacing and roundness of the boxes. When you click the tags, it gives you an option to add in swatches to the boxes instead of photos [I did this for my card to break it up a little bit]. And finally, you can add photos to your card by selecting the mountain picture. This program gives you the option of adding your own photos [from your computer or several social media sites or use some of their stock photos]. When you are in the love with the layout, just hit the edit button at the top of the screen and you can add all of the special touches to your card.

The main tabs you are going to use in this editor are the snowflake at the bottom and the Tt tab. The snowflake has tons of stuff that you can use to add to your card. I used the “Merry Christmas” message and snowflake stickers. You will find different items in the different themes. The programs also has suggested fonts to go with those themes if you want to use them. This program is very simple and easy to use to create a one-of-a-kind Christmas card.

I do have some words of advice:

  1. When you see the crown symbol, that tells you that the “effect” you want is for Royale members which is a paid subscricption to PicMonkey. The subscription is very cheap [it ranges from $2.50 to $5 a month] if you feel like the program is worth it.
  2. Have fun and let your creative juices flow!!

Are you going to make make your own Christmas card this year?

Love, KarenAnn
